What to Wear to a Wedding

What to Wear to a Wedding

A Pakistani wedding is rarely one event. There is the mehndi, the baraat, the walima and often a few dinners in between, which means a guest can need three or four outfits. The good news is that you do not need to buy all of them new. Here is how to think about each occasion and build outfits you will actually wear again.

Know the dress code and the host's colours

Ask the family or check the invitation. Some hosts name a theme or a colour for the mehndi. As a general rule, avoid wearing the bride's colour at the baraat, which is traditionally red or a deep jewel tone, and avoid all-white or all-black at celebratory events unless it is clearly welcome. When in doubt, a rich colour such as emerald, maroon or navy is safe nearly everywhere.

The mehndi

The mehndi is bright, relaxed and often outdoors, which makes it the best place for colour and comfortable fabrics. A printed lawn kurta such as the Printed Lawn Kurta in peach or sage green over the Classic Shalwar Trouser looks fresh and festive without being heavy. Add a Lightweight Chiffon Scarf in a contrasting shade and you have a complete look. Choose flat or low shoes, since grass and uneven floors are common.

The baraat or nikah

This is usually the most formal event, so go for richer fabrics and fuller silhouettes. The Occasion Maxi Dress in maroon, emerald or navy suits evening ceremonies and photographs well. If you prefer eastern wear, choose a longer kurta in a deeper colour with matching trousers and a dupatta or scarf. Make sure the fit is right: a formal outfit looks best when it is not straining or swimming on you, so check the sizing guide well in advance.

The walima

The walima tends to be elegant and a little calmer, often with softer colours. Pastels, ivory tones and dusty shades work well. A Linen Co-ord Set in natural beige or sage green is a modern option for a daytime or garden walima, particularly in warmer months, and the Everyday Abaya suits guests who prefer a more modest, flowing look. Pair either with simple jewellery and let the outfit speak.

Weather matters

In summer, a wedding hall is hot until the air conditioning catches up, and then it can be cold. Breathable fabrics keep you comfortable on arrival, and a light layer such as the Soft Knit Cardigan handles the chill. In winter, outdoor events call for a shawl or jacket that works over your outfit rather than hiding it. Think about the entire evening, from arriving to being photographed to leaving, not just the first thirty minutes.

Shoes and bags

Choose shoes you can stand in for hours. Block Heel Sandals give height with a stable base, which is kinder than a stiletto on carpets and lawns. For a bag, keep it small and structured: phone, keys, lipstick and cash fit easily. A bag in neutral tan or black goes with nearly everything, so it earns its place at several events.

Plan your timeline

The most common wedding outfit stress is leaving it too late. Order at least a couple of weeks before the first event. Orders ship within 2 to 3 business days, and you will want time to check the fit and make a simple alteration if needed. We offer cash on delivery and confirm each order on WhatsApp, so you can raise any question before the parcel leaves us. Returns are accepted within 14 days for unused items in original packaging, but it is far less stressful to know your outfit works well before the week of the wedding.

Mix, match and re-wear

Wedding season is expensive because people buy a new outfit for every event, then rarely wear it again. Pick pieces that can live a second life. A plain trouser works with several kurtas. A maxi dress dresses down with a denim jacket for a family dinner. A scarf changes the mood of an outfit you already own. You can see these combinations together in the Occasion Edit.

Quick checklist for guests

  • Confirm the dress code and the number of events.
  • Pick one rich colour and build around it.
  • Choose breathable fabrics and a light layer.
  • Decide on shoes before you finalise the outfit.
  • Order early and check the fit.

Attending a wedding is about celebrating with people you care about. Dress in something you feel good in, and the rest takes care of itself. If you would like a suggestion, send us a message on WhatsApp with the event, the weather and your size, and we will point you towards a few options.
